Media sources said today, Thursday, that billionaire Elon Musk was able to acquire the Twitter site, and dismissed the CEO of the site Parag Agrawal and other executive directors.
It is noted that Musk visited the headquarters of Twitter earlier on Thursday, and posted a tweet that included a video clip showing him smiling while carrying a large "sink," which sparked many reactions, before completing the purchase deal of "Twitter".
Completing the deal removes a cloud of uncertainty that was hanging over Twitter’s business, its employees, and its shareholders for much of the year.
After the initial approval to buy the company in April, Musk spent months trying to withdraw from the deal, citing first concerns about the number of bots on the platform and allegations later raised by a company whistleblower.
But Musk’s acquisition, and the immediate dismissal of some of its senior executives, now raises a new set of questions about the future of the social media platform and many pillars of the community that were affected by it.
On the other hand, Musk said he plans to rethink content moderation policies on Twitter to serve a stricter approach to "freedom of speech".
The billionaire also said he does not agree with Twitter’s practice of permanent bans for those who repeatedly violate its rules, increasing the likelihood of the return of a number of previously banned users on the platform.
Perhaps immediately, many will watch to see when Musk will allow former US President Donald Trump to return to the platform, as he previously said he would.
By taking these steps, Musk could unilaterally overturn the media and political ecosystem, reshape public discourse online, and disrupt the emerging field of socially conservative-leaning social media platforms that largely emerged in response to complaints about bans and restrictions imposed on Twitter and other major services.
