Two people were killed after an explosion occurred at an oil and gas well site near Slavey Lake over the weekend.
Brian Schmidt, President and CEO of Tamarack Valley Energy, also said the explosion happened at around 2 PM on Saturday at one of the Marten Hills sites, where two contractors working on the site were killed. Schmidt also added that the company has implemented emergency procedures and isolated the site.
In the same context, Occupational Health and Safety is now trying to determine the cause of the explosion.
"Families have been notified and are going through a very difficult time," Schmidt said in a written statement, adding: "We express our deepest condolences to the families in this tragic incident. Tamarack Valley has an excellent safety record, so we are deeply saddened by this incident and take this matter very seriously."
Additionally, OHS said that no work is being done at the site, so no stop work order has been issued.
