Moneris, the payment processing company, said it has resolved an outage that appeared to affect debit and credit transactions across the country.
The company issued a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, after 2 PM today, Saturday, saying: "Moneris has resolved the network outage and restored transaction processing to normal. Merchants may experience some slowness in transactions while the systems catch up."
Darren LeRoux, the communications director at Moneris, added in a statement to CTV News that the "intermittent network outage" affected customers' ability to process transactions for about 90 minutes.
Users also reported issues with Visa, peaking at over 400 complaints shortly before 1 PM.
However, reports of outages for both Interac and Visa have decreased since then.
Some users on X also reported service interruptions.
At least one company, London Drugs, responded to X users saying: "Unfortunately, all stores across Canada are experiencing network issues and the IT department is working to resolve this matter; we hope it will be fixed soon."
BC Ferries also stated that it experienced service interruptions "related to processing debit and credit card transactions at terminals and on vessels" on Saturday, which have since been resolved.
