The "Globe and Mail" newspaper reported that Canada and Denmark have reached a settlement for a regional dispute over Hans Island, which covers an area of 1.3 square kilometers in the Arctic Ocean.
According to the agreement, a boundary line will be drawn across the island, dividing it between the Canadian territory of Nunavut and the Danish autonomous region of Greenland.
The newspaper cited sources saying that the agreement is scheduled to be announced on June 14.
The regional dispute between Denmark and Canada over the ownership of Hans Island had been ongoing since 1973, when work began on establishing an agreement delineating the continental shelf boundaries between Canada and Greenland.
