Britain will gradually see coins, banknotes, and stamps bearing the image of its new king Charles III, while the royal emblem will also appear on government buildings and red post boxes, according to Buckingham Palace.

As the country begins to adapt to its first new monarch in 70 years, the makers of its coins and stamps said they will start the slow transition from using the image of the late Queen Elizabeth to the image of the new king.

The CEO of the Royal Mint, Anne Jessopp, said, "The first coins bearing the image of King Charles III will enter circulation in line with demand from banks and post offices."

She added, "This means that coins of King Charles III and Queen Elizabeth II will circulate together in the United Kingdom for many years to come."

The replacement process will take some time, as estimates from the Royal Mint indicate there are about 27 billion coins bearing the image of the late queen who passed away earlier this month.

Similarly, the Bank of England said notes bearing the image of King Charles are expected to enter circulation by mid-2024.
