Since Tuesday, the use of plastic bags has officially been banned in the Quebec capital, Montreal. This ban includes stores and restaurants.
The city council adopted a new regulation in September 2021, after amending the regulation concerning shopping bags. The ban applies to restaurants that offer fast food or home delivery services.
In a press release, the Municipality of Montreal stated that only 16% of plastic bags, which cause environmental and surrounding pollution, are recovered.
