An Ottawa man was arrested near Toronto this weekend after being caught in a video inciting hatred and expressing anti-Semitic views.
Ottawa police have charged Mohammed Asadi with violating several bail conditions and hope to keep him in custody while the Toronto hate crimes unit investigates.
The police said that the hate crimes units of the Toronto and Ottawa police are working together on this case.
The Crown lawyer, Moez Karimji, also told the court that it is important for the public and victims of anti-Semitism to have confidence in the administration of justice and the rule of law.
Asadi’s bail hearing date has not yet been set.
Asadi also faces outstanding charges, including assault, trespassing, and breaking and entering, which have not yet been tested in court.
