The main building of the YMCA-YWCA in downtown Ottawa is marked "For Sale" as part of a plan to open a new facility to support the community.

The YMCA-YWCA in the National Capital Region has announced that the main building on Argyle Avenue will be offered for sale.

It is worth mentioning that this building was constructed in 1969, and it has reached the end of its lifespan and can no longer meet the needs of our community without major infrastructure updates and renovations costing up to $38 million.

"With that in mind, and as we plan for the future, the Y Board of Directors has decided to list our property located at 180 Argyle Avenue in Ottawa for sale."

The YMCA-YWCA expects the sale process to take up to two years.

The YMCA-YWCA said in a statement: "During this time, the YMCA will work alongside its government partners and generous donors to identify a new and modern home better designed to meet the needs of its residents, clients, and the community as a whole."

The Y has been part of the National Capital Region for 155 years.

Susanna Crabtree, Chair of the Y Board of Directors said, "The new and modern facility will ensure that we can continue to play this vital role well into the future." "Over the next two years, staff and volunteers will continue to provide vital services that support the health and well-being of our community, while ensuring minimal disruption for our clients and the community we serve, especially for those who call this Y home to facilitate their stay."

The Taggart Family YMCA-YWCA located on Argyle Avenue includes group fitness spaces, a cycling studio, a 25-meter pool, two squash courts, a gymnasium, and changing rooms.

In January, the YMCA-YWCA announced the sale of its building in the Orleans area.
