The Canadian government announced the evacuation of 236 citizens from Israel.
Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly visited Israel earlier and met with her counterpart in the country, according to Canadian Foreign Affairs spokesperson Joly Sunday during a press conference today.
Joly also discussed the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and met with Canadians who took Canadian military flights from Israel to Athens, Greece. Joly left Israel and headed to Amman, Jordan.
Currently, there are more than 6,500 Canadians in Israel registered with the Canadian foreign ministry, and 485 Canadians registered in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Sunday stated that the Canadian foreign ministry is currently assisting about 2,200 Canadians, including 1,300 in Gaza and 150 in the West Bank.
She added that 600 Canadians still have unclear whereabouts, and the government advisory committee is in contact with them, while the government continues to monitor the cases of four missing Canadians.
