Leaders and officials met to discuss healthcare at their first in-person meeting in over two years in Regina on Friday at the "Western Premiers 2022" conference.
The opening presentation discussed the necessity for the federal government to increase its share of health transfer payments from 22% to 35%, which will reach nearly $28 billion annually.
Scott Moe, Premier of Saskatchewan, said this will ensure sustainable funding for current services and future improvements in the region.
Moe added that he is confident the federal government will continue discussions about increasing transfer payments with other leaders after the conclusion of the conference on Friday.
In addition to healthcare, other topics such as affordability, economic recovery, security, and climate were discussed at the one-day conference.
