The Ottawa Police urge drivers to get locks for their cars or park them in a secure garage after dozens of car thefts so far since the beginning of summer. Specifically, more than 70 Honda CR-V cars alone have been stolen in the past six weeks. The police stated on Twitter: "Cars are often stolen during nighttime hours, and this is happening throughout the city."

Nearly 500 cars have also been reported stolen throughout the city of Ottawa this year, as of August 9. The police said there is an increase in car thefts, and also the targeting of the latest models of Dodge Durangos, Jeep Cherokees, Honda Pilots, and Honda CRs.

In the same context, the police posted a statement on Twitter saying: "No car has been stolen from a secured garage; thieves roam the neighborhoods and photograph cars in driveways, and come back later at night. Therefore, if your car is not visible, it is not a target for theft."

As of August 9, according to the latest reports and statistics, these were the types of cars stolen in Ottawa this year: Honda CR-Vs - 149 Lexus / Toyota - 145 Jeep Cherokee / Dodge Durango - 137 Ford Pickup / Lincoln - 44 Acura RDX - 18.
