After Camille Moujar had her child, she returned to work and not much time had passed; this was in March 2019, despite having a list of about 7 to 10 childcare places (daycares) and not receiving any response from them.
Camille says she started searching while her little one was not yet three months old, but she admitted that she should have started searching earlier, as many parents in high-demand areas in the province get on lists very early in pregnancy.
She explained, "This is evidence that the cost of daycare in Ontario, and in Toronto in particular, has become high enough to the point that residents consider continuing to provide care for their children on their own as we quickly realized that the cost was roughly equivalent to one parent's salary."
This prompted Moujar's husband to take on caregiving responsibilities after returning from work, as the couple began thinking about daycare again in early 2021 and were able to secure a place in a center in Toronto, which Moujar believes would not have been easily available without the pandemic.
