Israel revealed today, Tuesday, that its military aircraft were exposed to Russian fire over Syria last May, but they missed the target and did not hit any of them, describing this incident as a "first-time incident."
This announcement came from Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz amid tensions between Moscow and Tel Aviv regarding the second's condemnation of the Ukraine war and the first's scrutiny of a Jewish immigration agency.
According to Reuters news agency, Gantz said at a conference hosted by Hebrew "Channel 13" when asked to confirm the news, "This was the first-time incident."
He explained that this Russian launch was from the Russian S-300 system in Syria, as reported by "Channel 13."
The Russian embassy in Israel did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.
The crisis between Moscow and Tel Aviv escalated after the Russian Ministry of Justice warned the Jewish Agency organization inside Russia to close its offices after violating Russian national law.
He confirmed that Israeli-Russian relations are based on a long history, and Tel Aviv is ready to dialogue with Moscow regarding the Jewish Agency issue.
Israel said, citing Russian officials, that Moscow's closure of the Jewish Agency offices came for political reasons and in response to Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s opposition to Russia over the background of the war in Ukraine.
