A nine-year-old girl died after a snow fort collapsed in a forest behind her residence in Quebec.
The victim was building a fort with another girl, aged 7, when it collapsed on them in the town of Saint-Apollinaire, about 100 kilometers west of Quebec City.
Quebec provincial police were called to the scene at 2:40 PM on Sunday, along with local firefighters and paramedics.
Police spokeswoman Béatrice Dorsinville said the first responders tried to resuscitate the girl before transferring her to the hospital, where her death was confirmed.
The other girl was injured but authorities do not fear for her life.
Dorsinville also said that investigators and forensic teams will take a look at the scene, adding that she cannot determine whether the children were accompanied by an adult at the time of the collapse.
