Rogers Communications announced that it has opened wireless service to its customers at all subway stations in Toronto, as well as the tunnels between Sheppard West and Vaughan Metropolitan Centre stations.

This step comes as the company continues to enhance the infrastructure of its full 5G network across all subway tunnels – a process it said would take two years when the plan was announced in April.

Last month, customers of competing transit companies Bell Canada and Telus Corp were able to access cellular service in the busiest part of the Toronto subway system after Rogers first activated the upgraded network in downtown stations and tunnels for its customers.

Service for all carriers comes after months of intense back-and-forth negotiations between Rogers, Bell, and Telus, prompting the federal government to set a deadline for all Toronto subway system riders to have cellular connection.

Rogers did not mention in its announcement whether Bell and Telus customers can expect service across the rest of the active network.

The companies face a December 20 deadline to negotiate commercial agreements to provide long-term subway service.
