The office of International Development Minister Ahmed Hussein said that Canada will continue to provide humanitarian and developmental assistance to Palestinians while preventing the diversion of that aid to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
Alex Tétrault, Director of Communications, said in an email: "We will continue to support civilians with life-saving humanitarian aid, while ensuring that no funds reach Hamas."
Tétrault also stated that Canada follows a policy of not engaging with Hamas and that any assistance from the Canadian government goes directly to the Palestinian Authority.
He added that instead, the $55 million that Canada spends annually on development and humanitarian aid in the West Bank and Gaza passes through international relief organizations.
Canada relies on Canadian and international partners with experience and reliability, such as the United Nations World Food Programme, UNICEF, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, as well as NGOs like Oxfam Canada, the Red Cross, and the Middle East. Tétrault stated that Red Moon will provide aid to the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
