Major investments will help create jobs for Ontarians now and in the future, said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, in an official statement addressing the Canadian Statistics Agency's monthly jobs report, which indicates that employment in Ontario increased by 21,400 jobs in March 2023.
Vic said: “For the sixth consecutive month, we have seen an increase in jobs in Ontario along with new investments from global and local companies. Since 2018, more than 600,000 good-paying jobs have been created in the province, and we continue to lead the country in job creation.”
He also added in his statement: “At a time of global economic uncertainty, our government takes a focused and responsible approach to support individuals and businesses today, while laying a solid foundation for the future. Furthermore, we are investing in infrastructure, training a world-class workforce, and keeping taxes low to give innovative startups and global giant companies the best chance to develop and create jobs.
Over the past two and a half years, we have succeeded in attracting more than $17 billion in automotive investments, and just last month Volkswagen, the largest car manufacturer in Europe, announced plans to build the first external facility for manufacturing electric vehicle battery cells in St. Thomas. VueReal, a startup in Ontario, recently announced a $40 million industrial investment to expand its operations.
As we face global challenges, our government is also doing more to help Ontario-based manufacturing companies maintain their competitiveness. As part of our 2023 budget: we are offering a 10% Industrial Investment Tax Credit in Ontario to help local manufacturers invest in innovation, expand their operations, and create new well-paying jobs.
Our government will continue to work tirelessly to build a strong province, drive growth, and enhance the province's competitive advantage, enabling Ontario workers and businesses to continue succeeding today and for generations to come.”
