On the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People .. Excluding the Palestinian ambassador from participation to whose benefit?

It is well known that the United Nations General Assembly called in 1977 to celebrate on November 29 of each year the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (Resolution 32/40 B), as on that day in 1947 the General Assembly adopted the Palestine Partition Plan (Resolution 181 .(II)

The General Assembly also requested under Resolution 60/37 dated December 1, 2005, that the Committee and Division on the Rights of Palestinians, as part of the celebration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on November 29, organize an annual exhibition on the rights of Palestinians in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of Palestine to the United Nations, and encourages member states to continue providing the widest support and media coverage to celebrate Solidarity Day.

In 2015, the Palestinian flag was raised in front of United Nations headquarters and offices around the world, and the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to raise the flags of non-member observer states at the United Nations, including the flag of the State of Palestine. The ceremony of raising the Palestinian flag was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on September 30, 2015.

This occasion is a good opportunity to renew the global solidarity with the Palestinian people and shed light on their humanitarian suffering and legitimate rights that they demand, freedom and independence on one hand, and on the other hand, for Palestinians to review their international status and internal relations among themselves amid the conflicts and divisions they face.

But unlike the usual tradition known in the years preceding the Corona pandemic, this year's celebration was lonely, weak, and limited to a small group not exceeding sixty people, according to those who attended this occasion, although the invitation was open to one hundred people, which is the capacity of the place!

But the strange thing about this occasion is that some tried to exploit it to serve their objectives and restrict it to what they wanted only, and thus it was not surprising that the official Palestinian representative in Canada was not invited to participate in this ceremony sponsored by the Canadian Parliamentary Friendship Committee, whose work is basically based on consultation on this matter with the Palestinian representative like other parliamentary friendship committees with other countries, aiming to develop the relationship between Canada and these countries.

This ceremony was held in cooperation with the Palestinian Coalition Associations, whose core work is supposed to serve the members of the community and build bridges between these communities and the official Canadian levels to serve the interest of all, and to work on their cohesion and activate their participation in such occasions and not use the support available to them to practice a form of deepening hatred, gagging mouths, and bullying some community members just because there are differences in visions as happened in this celebration or to compete with the Palestinian representative and present themselves as an alternative!

The question is why the Palestinian representative was excluded, who according to confirmed information had not even received an invitation to participate in this solidarity ceremony with the Palestinian people, and this is unusual and contrary to custom in such occasions?! .... So was the celebration really solidary, or was it a show, or a deliberate humiliation serving special goals and achieving other objectives?! Especially since it seems that the organizing member of parliament needed to guarantee the support of these people in this fictitious coalition that represents only prominent members who love the spotlight, and it is a fragmented, weak coalition without sources of willpower and works according to a special agenda and interests far from the foundations of the work of the Canadian Palestinian associations, rather some in this coalition exploit it to achieve other goals according to their whims and illusions to serve personal aims!

This matter reminds us of the words of one person among these groups, who once appeared on a satellite channel saying that the influence of his group in the Canadian society has reached the extent that they can bring a member of parliament or remove another if they wish! .... Did Her Excellency the organizing member of parliament know about this, and does she accept that such intellectual arrogance from these individuals reaches this extent which harms the Canadian parliamentary stature?!.

Or was it because of the need for the efforts and support of these, the imagined, and it seems that it was useful for the organizers of this ceremony, each according to his goal, that the Palestinian representative not be present to serve the intersection of interests and monopolization of the scene, according to what some Palestinian parties who participated in this ceremony see, as it seems they are in disagreement or perhaps competition with this legitimate representative of the Palestinian Authority who accepts international resolutions on the one hand and rejects violence and extremism on the other and calls always for peace.... So was this celebration truly in solidarity with the Palestinian people or was it aimed at excluding the internationally recognized Palestinian legitimacy, diminishing its role, humiliating it, and limiting it within the framework of complaint to the Arab Ambassadors Council and some Canadian parliamentarians whether intentionally or unintentionally, and is this acceptable?!.

Finally, do we as Canadians take pride in our identity and our great country Canada now at the expense of forgetting our true constructive role that makes nations envy us and wish to be Canadian like us? And is someone trying to lead us into the tunnel of gagging policies which are oppressive policies applied only in the third world and have no place in our great country Canada which we loved and loved us, a country of freedoms and rule of law, a country where rights and freedoms are protected and guaranteed by the constitution?!.

Canada has taught us to accept others, respect their dignity, listen to them, and respect their opinion even if we disagree, and it never taught us exclusion, silencing moderate voices who love this great country, insulting them or excluding the official representatives of legitimacy, moderation, acceptance of others, and believers in peace.

Opening the door to such negative behaviors calls us to question the purpose of this exclusion and the influence of these people on officials from parliamentarians and others and our lack of feeling secure and safe, while we reject exclusion and hatred of any kind, and stand strongly against anyone who dares to think in this direction. Our umbrella is one, the flag of Canada, and our direction is one, Canada. So how do we accept the use of Canadian parliamentarians to serve personal agendas and goals for individuals who claim to have great influence on their communities and then inside parliament while they represent only themselves, and thus believing their narrative without examination and scrutiny, that they can bring a member of parliament or remove another!..... This is not the Canada we knew and love, and certainly, we do not accept this because our dignity is part of its dignity!

Excluding some people from participating in this ceremony, whatever their personal, professional, and official status, is completely inconsistent with Ottawa's adoption of a strategy of rejecting hatred, especially if these persons do not represent any security threat or have any criminal offenses against them, and therefore the matter needs radical treatment so that no one imagines that he can do as he pleases, exclude whom he wants, despise the dignity of whom he wishes, and insult whom he wants whenever he wants, even if it is through misleading officials with false and untrue narratives that drive them to take positions unbecoming of their parliamentary and official status!
