A family in the state of New Jersey, USA, revealed the fall of a strange object on the roof of their house last week, which sparked talk of a "possible meteor".

Suzy Cobb said she discovered a hole in the roof of her father's house in Hopewell Township in the state of New Jersey, USA, and it later turned out to be due to the fall of what appears to be a meteor on the house.

Cobb pointed out that no one was in the house at the time, and she found a metal rock in the corner of the room as she was moving through the debris and gypsum boards.

Meteor falls on house

Derek Pitts, chief astronomer at the Franklin Institute, confirmed: "It could be 4 to 5 billion years old, possibly since the beginning of the solar system."

He added: "It has been orbiting in space all that time, then reached Earth and fell directly on the house, but for it to actually hit a house and for people to be able to catch it, that is really unusual. It has happened rarely in history."
