The Italian police announced today, Thursday, that they arrested a 37-year-old Algerian man in the Milan subway, and later discovered that he is wanted in his country for his alleged connections to the "ISIS" organization.
The Milan police also said that when he was stopped for a routine check, the man showed "aggressiveness".
They added in a statement: "He repeatedly shouted Allahu Akbar while trying to pull something from his backpack, which turned out to be a knife with a blade longer than 12 cm."
It later emerged that he is wanted by the authorities in Algeria, and has been suspected since 2015 of belonging to "ISIS militias and operating in the Syrian-Iraqi war theater," according to the same source.
The police said that the suspect is unknown to the Italian authorities.
They also explained that he is currently detained in San Vittore prison in Milan awaiting deportation.
