Calgary - Natural gas prices have reached highs not seen since 2008 this week, and analysts say it may rise further this summer.
The standard natural gas price in the United States is currently about $8.60 per million BTUs. It had risen to more than $9 earlier this week.
Analysts say the price could break $10 this summer due to low stocks and global concerns about energy security.
Heat waves in the summer may also drive prices up as electricity demand increases.
High natural gas prices are good news for Western Canada, where natural gas production is concentrated.
But an industry group says labor shortages remain an ongoing challenge for this industry.
