The coronavirus continues to spread globally, with more than one million new cases of "COVID-19" and over 3,100 deaths reported in the past 28 days, according to the latest report from the World Health Organization.

In this regard, health experts around the world are concerned about a new subvariant called "EG.5," which has become the most prevalent in several countries, including the United States and Britain, according to the American newspaper "The Washington Post." The World Health Organization stated that "EG.5 is currently under surveillance."

The new variant...

EG.5 is a strain of Omicron, which remains the most widespread coronavirus variant in the world, and this subvariant now represents the largest percentage of virus cases in America, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The symptoms of this subvariant do not differ from previous variants and include cough, fever or chills, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle pain, and headache.

Health experts also pointed out that vaccination efforts should still be encouraged, along with safe social practices such as wearing face masks and ensuring proper ventilation in rooms.

For his part, virologist and researcher Stuart Turville described "EG.5" as "more competitive" compared to its counterparts.

He highlighted that it is "better able to evade antibodies produced by vaccines," but added that the difference is slight compared to previous variants.
