The federal government has decided to mandate all wireless telecommunications companies in Canada to provide cellular service in the subway system operated by TTC by next October.
In this regard, François-Philippe Champagne, the federal minister of innovation, science and industry, mentioned in a press conference in Toronto concerning the new licensing conditions for the radio spectrum; where companies will need to ensure passenger connectivity to the cellular network no later than October 3rd.
He added that the inability of all subway passengers to access wireless services is unacceptable, especially since cellular connectivity in the subway is a matter of public safety, which many subway users have been looking forward to for a long time.
