Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly announced a fifth package of economic sanctions against Iran, as Ottawa continues its campaign to criticize human rights conditions in Tehran.
Joly said in a statement that two airlines, Shahid Aviation Industries and Quds Aviation Industries, have been added to the Canadian sanctions list for their relationship with the Revolutionary Guard.
Joly's statement described the two companies as key to the regime’s ongoing activities, including its assistance to Russian forces during Russia's attack on Ukraine.
Canada also banned economic dealings with six individuals described as senior members and supporters of the regime, including the former commander-in-chief of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
The sanctions come following an official Canadian protest using rarely employed immigration rules earlier this week to prevent thousands of Iranian government and military officials from entering the country.
