The area of wildfires on both sides of Adams Lake in British Columbia has expanded, as the interior has ordered evacuation orders while crews continue to battle the fires during the long weekend.
One post published by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District on Sunday stated that the wildfires at Adams Lake in the northeast have grown slightly, after days of residents being hastily evacuated due to a severe wind shift igniting the fires toward properties along the lake's shore.
The regional district said that thick smoke has made visibility poor and that weather conditions are favorable for further expansion of the fire due to dry and hot conditions.
More than 90 properties in the regional area remain under evacuation, and on the other side of the lake, evacuation orders were issued for 13 properties on Forest Service Road Sunday afternoon due to the wildfires at Bush Creek East.
The lake is divided by the boundary between the Columbia Shuswap Regional District and the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, where the latter requested evacuations of properties along Adams West Forest Service Road late Sunday afternoon.
In the northern interior of the province, BC Wildfire Service said on Sunday that Canadian Armed Forces personnel are now arriving in the community of Houston to assist with the evolving wildfires in a record year for burned square kilometers.
