US President Joe Biden said that "his heart aches" following news of the killing of an American named Ghadi Haggai who was killed in the war on Gaza.
It was believed that Hamas took Haggai (73 years old), an Israeli American, and his wife among the hostages during their attack.
Biden also said in a statement released by the White House, "Our hearts, Jill and I, are broken by the news that it is now believed that Hamas killed American Ghadi Haggai on October 7. We will continue to pray for the safety of his wife Judy and her safe return."
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that Judy Weinstein, Haggai's wife, is still being held in Gaza.
Biden's statement did not provide further details about what happened to Haggai.
He also added in his statement, "Today we pray for their four children, seven grandchildren, and other loved ones who have been saddened by this tragic news about them."
