US authorities said that a shooting on the main campus of the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, Wednesday evening, resulted in the death of at least 3 people before the incident ended with the death of the suspect.
The Las Vegas Police Department stated in a statement that 3 people, along with the shooter, died. Meanwhile, another person was shot and is in critical condition.
Three hours after the incident, the university continued to urge people to take shelter in place, saying that the police are evacuating each building individually.
Classes were suspended at nearby universities and schools that closed their doors, while the Federal Aviation Administration announced the suspension of flights to a nearby international airport.
The authorities did not identify the victims, and it is not yet clear whether the suspect was shot by the police or committed suicide, as sometimes happens in similar shooting incidents.
The United States has witnessed more than 600 mass shooting incidents this year, according to the non-governmental organization "Gun Violence Archive," which defines a mass shooting as an incident in which 4 or more people are injured or killed.
