More than 27,000 homes remain without electricity today, Tuesday, after Quebec experienced its first major snowfall of the season.
Most of these homes are located in the Montérégie area, where 15,473 customers are in the dark until 6:30 a.m.
The second most affected area is Estrie, which has 8,633 homes without power.
In Montreal, there are only 11 customers without electricity.
Hydro-Quebec said: "The passing of a weather system over part of Quebec continues to leave heavy snow on the wires." The company added that "the snow breaks tree branches and trees touching the power grid, causing power outages."
More than 220 crews are working to restore electricity, with power restored to 65% of customers by 8 p.m. Monday.
Hydro-Quebec indicates that "teams are being moved from less affected areas to speed up service restoration."
The Crown company was unable to determine a timeline for power to return to the entire area.
