China's Xinhua News Agency announced that 110 people died during an earthquake that struck the Gansu-Qinghai border area on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre estimated the earthquake's magnitude at 6.1 in the area.
The center said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 35 kilometers and its epicenter is located 102 kilometers west and southwest of Lanzhou, China.
Xinhua also confirmed that the Chinese National Committee for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Relief and the Ministry of Emergency Management activated a level four emergency response.
The report added that the authorities sent a working team to the affected areas to assess the impact of the disaster and provide guidance for local relief operations, according to what was published by Sky News.
