The population of Canada increased by more than 430,000 people during the third quarter, representing the fastest rate of population growth in any quarter since 1957.
At the same time, the Canadian Statistics Agency released its population estimates as of October 1, showing that Canada’s population has exceeded 40.5 million people.
It stated that the total population growth in the country during the first nine months of the year has already surpassed the total growth in any other full year, including the record set in 2022.
The unprecedented population growth was driven by international migration, with an increase in the number of temporary residents who constitute most of this increase.
The report also showed that the number of temporary residents rose by about 313,000 people during the three-month period.
The federal agency said that the increase in the number of temporary residents was driven by holders of work and study permits, and to a lesser extent, asylum seekers.
