U.S. law enforcement authorities reported that the "substance" found in the White House two days ago was identified as "cocaine" after conducting a preliminary field test.
The British newspaper The Guardian reported that the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) is conducting investigations into how the substance reached the White House.
For his part, Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said that the discovery led to an increased security alert and a brief evacuation of the presidential building after the substance was discovered during a routine inspection tour.
Initial reports also indicated that the substance was found in a reference library in an area where tourist groups are allowed to enter.
Guglielmi confirmed that there is an investigation into the reason and method by which the substance entered the White House.
